WHAT'S THE PROCESS OF WORKING WITH AN AWARDS WRITER?

Did you know I write awards entries for the property and interiors sector? On behalf of my clients, I research and write awards submissions for accolades such as the What House? Awards, the Housebuilder Awards and the British Homes Awards.

Having written for major brands including Berkeley Group, Barratt Homes and Hill Group, I know what the awards judges are looking for and I’m skilled at writing highly persuasive awards entries.

Here’s an overview of the stages you’ll go through when you work with me on your awards submission…

1.  Get in touch

Drop me an email or message me on here to start the ball rolling.

2.  Discovery call

We’ll set up a time for a discovery call so you can see whether we’re a good fit.

This is a chance to talk through your requirements and discuss which awards you want to enter and in which categories.

3.  Scope & fee

Once I know your remit, I’ll draw up a quote for the work. This will be based on a set project fee rather than an hourly rate, so you’ll know exactly what you’ll be paying for a specific set of deliverables.

4.  Booking in

As soon as the scope and fees have been agreed, I’ll get you booked in. I require a 50% deposit before I start work on your project. Typical turnaround time from start to finish is four weeks.

5.  Consultation

Next up is a consultation meeting in which I start to gather all the information I need to write your awards entry. I pay particular attention to your awards category’s criteria to ensure your submission is fully evidenced. We’ll also discuss format and structure at this stage.

6.  Interviews & research

Leave everything with me while I conduct in-depth research – including interviewing relevant stakeholders within your company – to enable me to craft a comprehensive, engaging and persuasive awards entry. You might want to speak to your designer at this stage to ensure they’re ready to go once the copy has been completed.

7.  First draft

If I’ve hit the brief, everything should be spot on in the first draft. I’ll deliver a focused and engaging narrative featuring compelling headlines and persuasive storytelling techniques.

8.  Amends & completion

Two rounds of amendments are included in my fee, so if you do require any edits I’ll action those for you. Once these have been completed, and your designer has laid out the copy, your awards entry is ready for submission. (I’ll usually also proofread the final version of your awards PDF to ensure everything is as it should be.)

9.  Time to choose your outfit!

Now it’s time to sit back and let the judges get to work. While you wait, you might like to start thinking about what you’re going to wear for that glitzy awards dinner!
